Japan: Part Two

What I loved most about Japan were the people--especially the school kids. The adults seemed mostly oblivious to us while we were there, but the kids and teenagers seemed intrigued and fascinated by us. There were a couple times where I couldn't even walk down the street without being stopped a couple times by teenage girls wanting to touch me and have their pictures taken with me. I don't know who they thought I was, but I sure felt special. I discovered that the "peace" sign they are making with their fingers isn't actually a peace sign at all. I'm still not sure what it means, but I noticed they did it in all the pictures I took with them.

Rob and I were able to spend a day together in Kyoto and we visited a really beautiful temple. It must have been field day for the school kids because they were everywhere. Rob and I kept getting stopped and the kids just wanted to practice their English speaking skills on us. They asked us all sorts of questions and when they discovered that we could understand them, they would just giggle. It was really cute.

Here I am giving out my autograph. I felt like a movie star for a day. I totally know how Angelina Jolie feels now. Kidding.

They wanted to know where I lived and what I was doing in Japan. They were also wondering what I had eaten while I was there and if I liked it. I lied, of course.

After seeing so many temples, they started all looking alike. Very cool though.

It was very normal to see some lady walking down the street looking like this^

On our train ride back to Tokyo, we caught a quick glimpse of Mt. Fuji. I was shocked when I saw the clouds move out of the way so I could snap a few pictures. It was gone almost as quickly as it appeared. Did you know it's the most climbed mountain in the world?

While we were walking through Kyoto, we spotted a street musician. He was playing one of Rob's favorite songs, so Rob decided to throw some Yen in his case. They got to talking and before I knew it, Rob was playing his guitar and serenading me. He actually made the guy money that day. It was pretty funny.

The guy was impressed and started shooting pictures of Rob playing. It was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.

To be continued...

I think Kyoto is where they train the Geisha girls, possibly why you saw so many in traditional dress/makeup.

You're beautiful, girl! Those kids thought you were a movie star. They're at home on the Japanese equivalent of www.imdb.com trying to figure out what movie Emily Matson was in. :0)

I'm dying to know what the "peace" sign means now. That is pretty funny about Rob jumping in there and playing the guitar. Keep the pictures coming. It's all very interesting to me.

O love your pictures! I think they think you're Julia Roberts. You know that all tall thin gorgeous movie star types look the same to them. And, now we know that Rob can bring in some extra cash by busking on the side! We may run into him sometime on the streets playing his tunes.

The peace sign is just a thing they always do when they take pictures it doesn't mean anything. It might be a carry over from WWII when we kicked their butts. I was looking through my old mission pictures and almost every picture with a person in it has someone making the sign. So there ya go. Mystery solved.
