Reflection

Yesterday I got a text message from Rob that said something like this: "Happy 9th anniversary of our first date-- chinese food, a hockey game, bowling..." I was not at all surprised that Rob remembered.

I didn't.

He is very thoughtful and sentimental like that and I love that about him. He also has a remarkable memory that comes in very handy at times. I have a very bad memory, so I can always ask him to remind me of certain events and details. It's helpful.

I have been reflecting a lot the past couple days about my life and how grateful I am that Rob and I found each other. When I think about the odds that were stacked against us, there is no doubt in my mind that the Lord played a role in our meeting.

November 2nd 1999 is a day I will never forget. My younger brother, Andy had been hounding me for months to come back home (I was living in UT at the time) and meet his friend that had just moved there after graduating from BYU. They had started a band together (that's another post) and Andy raved about his musical talents. I wasn't ready at the time. The pain of my divorce was still fresh and everything just felt so complicated. It wasn't just ME anymore. I had two kids that were my total focus at the time. I drug my feet, but a couple months later I was planning a visit home and made arrangements to meet Rob.

I remember walking in the door of my brother's house and feeling very nervous. Rob was playing guitar and singing one of the songs he had written. I sat down feeling a little awkward but completely taken off guard by a feeling I can't describe. I know it may sound lame, but I literally felt like I knew him.

He played it super cool that night and did an awesome job pretending like he wasn't interested. He has always been the tactful one. He called me the next evening and asked me out and the rest is history.

He loved Caleb and Kennedy and they loved him. I didn't think that men like him existed and I am so grateful for his example to them. He has always treated them like they were his very own. I don't take that for granted because I know it's rare.

This picture was taken on the day of our wedding (January 14, 2000). That day was perfect. I never felt joy like I did that day. I am so grateful for a loving Heavenly Father who has always been mindful of me and has shown me countless tender mercies throughout my life. Everybody has their trials and mine have made me who I am today. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Em, I never tire of hearing this sweet story of how you and Rob met. You are always so sincere and I can tell that you truly do love him. He's one lucky guy to have you, and I know you are so glad that he's yours. Thanks for sharing this story. I personally love how much he loved and still does love Caleb and Kennedy. That's just perfection right there.

Yeah, it's 4 a.m. and I'm awake. Porter is up with a fever, so I decided to come downstair and pass some time with him on my lap! Fun, huh?

I have never known 2 people more perfect for eachother. Even though I thought Rob was a little arrogant the first time I met hom, now I know he was just a little nervous.

What an awesome story. Knowing you, Rob did the right thing acting not interested on that first day. He sounds like a smart man. I am so happy that you and Rob found each other and have built such a beautiful loving family together.

Now, back to your hair post. I LOVE IT dark! I think you look so gorgeous in that picture. I do have to give you my personal rule when deciding what to do with my hair. Steve always gets a big vote. So, what does Rob say?

Cute picture. You do seem perfect for each other, and you certainly make cute kids together. Andy should be a professional matchmaker.

Tanks for the beautiful post. It makes me cry tears of joy as only a mother could.

Flip side, Rob could tell his story and how thrilled he is to find you.

After feeling rejected and deprived of love for a long time in only the way a girl like you could give, He called me and said in a very excited voice,(something like)"Mom, I have met the most beauatiful girl in the whole world. she is "drop Dead Gorgeousl" she looks like Cindy Crawford. But, she is just as beautiful on the inside. Oh, mom, one thing, do you mind? she has two children. They are wonderful little kids.

Of course I was thrilled. I have never seen Rob so happy.

I have never ever met a dad so thrilled to be a Dad and just savors every little moment with those six kids. He loves you and you have blessed his life way way waye than we can tell.

I love you too and I am eternally grateful that you have brought so very much joy to Rob and our whole family. sniff sniff.

By the way, I just looked up Cindy C. and you do really look a lot like her. She is known as one of the most beautiful women in the world. Well...they just havaen't met you. I am glad that you choose husband and motherhood instead of fame!!!!

I will post on my blog a picture of Cindy Crawford and picture of Rob with the kids that I love.

On occasion I snoop at your blog-as I am always interested in what's up in the Matson Family. I used to summon help from Rob for math homework. It must have been frustrating for him to help someone who REALLY didn't get it. Such a nice guy. I hear nothing but wonderful things about you too. I'm glad you met each other--and I'm glad I've had opportunity to meet you. You guys have a beautiful family! (This is Stephanie, by the way)

Yep, evey word of what mom said is true. and Steph too. Rob was the most patient math tutor ever. and I know cause I had like 10. I couldn't believe that he kept trying to help me even though I would ask him the same questions 100 times, and I know he had better things to do with his time. Well maybe I was keeping him from meeting other girls for you....yah thats it. I am so glad your my SIL, ROb always said I could pick his wife since we both knew her and I would have to be great friends, and I chewed him out when he told me he was getting maried and I hadn't met you, but he promised we would be BFF's and he was totally right...as usual
LOVE YOU, I tried to call you yesturday. :)

You and Rob have such a great story. Thanks for sharing. I love reading about all your thoughts of Rob--so many women just want to criticize their husbands and it's a refreshing break to hear the positives and how much he means in your life.
