*Update*

First of all, I have to just thank everybody for all your comments and support. By this morning and after reading everybody's comments I felt so much more at ease. Thank you!

So, we went to the ultrasound this morning and at first, they didn't really tell us anything. The tech started measuring different parts of the baby and she told us that everything looked perfect to her. After a few minutes the doctor came in to look at everything. I could write an entire post just about the quack job of a doctor he was! He wouldn't stop commenting on my lack of stretch marks and Rob's "ginormous" head. It was like he had 12 cups of coffee. He kept going on and on about Rob's head and how he needed to call his Mom and apologize. He even went as far as to call him "Jack-in-the-box." Anyway... he did look over everything and said that it all looked perfect and that he didn't think we had anything to worry about. He said that by the look of the ultrasound, he felt our odds were cut in half of the baby having Downs. We left the office feeling very relieved, but still not totally at ease. We went to lunch, killed some time and came back a couple hours later for our genetic counceling appointment. We got a lot of information and found out what my actual odds were according to the blood work. The baby has a 1/101 chance of having Downs, which is actually only 1% according to the genetic councelor. That means there's a 99% chance that the baby is fine. She didn't feel it was really necessary to have the amnio, but that I could if I wanted to put my mind at ease. We've decided that we are going to not do the amnio, but will go back for another level 2 ultrasound in 4 weeks. We both feel at peace. We are so grateful for prayer and for wonderful friends and family who love us and are always so supportive. Thank you!

Now, if you'd like to find out what we're having (if you haven't heard already), just watch this video of our wild children and enjoy me toying with them...just a little.

I'm so glad for the reassurances you got at the doctor today. And congrats on the baby boy. I thought for sure you were going to psych Ren out again and he was going to lose it.

Whew, I've been waiting for an update! It sounds like it was a big day! The Dr. sounds a little cookoo. I totally voted for a BOY on your survey! That's so fun! Glad everything went well and that you feel at peace. That's the best thing we can hope for! Love and miss you!

I'm so glad they were able to get you in to do an ultrasound and even though the doctor was crazy, he gave you some comforting info. Feel good and keep smiling.

Yay!! Congratulations on your new son. What a funny video. That doctor sounds nutty. For the record in the pictures I have seen of Rob I never noticed his abnormally huge head.

Woohoo! That's great news! So...what would Ren have named the octopus?

Wasn't there a time when Ren really did want you to have an octopus? Cute video and good news all around.

My apologies on it NOT being an octopus. DANG.
But srsly, YAY on the good news. I was checking your blog every 11teen minutes yesterday seeing if there was an update and I finally made Shed call. Now you'll have even stevens on the gender. Any names?

Peace is a great word. Because it is our balm from the Lord that reminds us we are never alone and its going to be okay. Another bouncing boy. Congrats. Sending love you way.

Congrats on evening up the odds, although an Octopus might have been fun....

I had a friend who was told while she was pregnant that her baby was Down's, and actually pressured by her doctor to abort.

When her daughter was born, she was perfect, nothing wrong with her at all. They had spent five months worrying, stressing and educating themselves etc.

I chose not to be tested for that reason, even though I was old and "at risk".

How about that doctor? Sounds like he needs a slice of humble pie.

I'm so happy for you that everything looks okay. Although, that doctor...WOW!

I loved poor Ren's reaction when he heard it was a girl, and then his total flip in mood when you said it was really a boy! Congratulations Emily!

Bummer about not having an octopus! But I guess having a baby boy will do. :) GRATS!

I am thrilled for you guys! Are you still planning on Drew for the name?

Amanda--we are still a little up in the air with the name. As much as I love my brother--I can't run with the name just yet. Who knows, maybe it'll be a surprise!

boy, oh boy, love the whole story. Its always so exciting around your house. The kids and I watched the video over and over. They are still not sure they trust what you said about it being a boy.

Robby, I hope you guys don't have to go back to that quack again, I think your head it completely NORMAL. You know if it was big I would be the first one to tell you.
Love ya.

Now to ROB,

You would look funny with a little head since you are a big tall guy. Your head is just right for your body and it is not abnormal or out of proportion..

Just to set the record straight, you were my biggest baby. You weighed 9lb. 1 oz.(or was is 2 or 3 oz.? It has been a long time. *U* and you were way the easiest to deliver. Way way WAY easier than ANY of the other six. It is all in the DOCTOR Who knew what to do and in mercy from the Lord.

NO APOLOGIES NEEDED.

You probably should have a bigger head to hold all those brains. However your head is perfect and you can still hold all those brains.

Love you,
Mom

Honestly folks, I was joking about the tears. I DO have a big noggin. You can insert your favorite quote from "So I Married an Axe Murderer" here—e.g., orange/toothpick, sputnik, etc. Just know that I'm not "cryin' [myself] to slip t'night on [my] huuuge pilla." And for an OB, that's got to be something they notice right off the bat.

The problem wasn't that he was picking on me, it was that we wanted to relax and enjoy the few moments we got with the baby.

Congratulations! We had a similar scare after Isaac was born. They thought downs and it took 10 days to get the results from the genetic testing. The longest 10 days of my life. I guess it helped to put all his other little problems into prespective. Mysterious ways, huh?

Hurray for boys! Congratulations! If you need help with boy names... just ask the master (that's me, in case it wasn't clear).
