This Easter was one of the strangest ones ever. After being sick for more than a week and having sick kids, I just wasn't in the mood. I usually love Easter and everything that goes along with it, but this year I just wasn't prepared. I'm afraid my family suffered. I did manage to make it out of the house on Saturday for my Easter shopping. I went to Target thinking they would have plenty of candy left, but they were CLEANED out! It was nuts. I grabbed the last 2 packages of Reeses Peanut Butter Eggs (my favorite) and a few bags of other junk and called it good. I was trying to find my girls' traditional Easter outfits but was having a really hard time. They are too old for the frilly, baby-like dresses that you see everywhere, so I had to get creative in my shopping. I managed to get all my shopping done, but ran out of energy (or motivation) to do any grocery shopping. I had it figured out in my head how I would scrape together a nice Easter meal and everyone would be happy. I threw some chicken in the crock-pot before I left for church with a whole plan in mind. We had to tag team church since Rachel was sick and Tait is still getting over RSV. I took Sarah and Ren (C and K were in PHX) and we went to sacrament meeting. I sat through 1.5 hours of fighting, whining kids, then hurried home so Rob could go teach G.D.
I was ready to make a lovely Easter dinner when I opened the crock-pot and noticed my chicken was over done and I wasn't sure what I could turn it into. I was going to make stuffing chicken and mashed potatoes. I thought, that's ok, I'll just pour BBQ sauce over it and serve it with rice. It kept getting weirder and weirder until it turned into BBQ chicken pizza. Rob got a good laugh about it when he got home, but he actually really loved it. Who knows, maybe it'll be our new traditional Easter meal.
I felt bad that my heart just wasn't in it yesterday. I thought I should redeem myself and let the kids have an Easter egg hunt in the backyard. I let Sarah hide the eggs while Ren and Rachel found them. I didn't take a single picture the entire day. I'm kind of sad about that. I think on Sunday I will dress them all up in their spiffy outfits and take a picture like it's Easter again.
In other news...
I WON (see post above)! I still can't believe it! I guess I should never say never. I'm so excited to pick out my new swimsuit. I'm having a hard time deciding which one to get. I'm thinking this one or this one. What do you think?
My sister Anna is coming tonight with her 5 kids. I can't wait! It's going to be noisy and messy, but I'm ready for it! Rob, on the other hand is hoping he can just disappear for a few days. Next to my husband, my sisters are my favorite people to hang out with. Can't wait!
My running has been put on the back burner since I got pneumonia, but I'm itching to hit the pavement again. There's a half marathon this weekend that I was hoping to do, but it's not looking promising. I have no idea how much I've regressed. I guess I won't know until I try running again. We'll see...
Have a great week!

My Easter wasn't the same either but I was camping.
Enjoy your week with Anna!!
Emily, I am so sorry you and the kids have been unwell. How miserable for all of you!
Growing up, one December all of us contracted flu. Not the lovely stomach stuff that is three days of misery and then done, we had 6+ weeks of influenza. That year we had a very green Christmas. The tree was left undecorated (hence the green) and we feasted on jello and chicken soup for Christmas dinner. Looking back, it is a funny memory. Russ and I have had a couple of "green" holidays ourselves. There is nothing wrong with staging photos later... and don't feel too bad about your plans not working as you had hoped. You can always redeem yourself next year if you want to.
I hope you all continue to feel better. Tell Anna hello from me. =)
You won the Lime Ricki contest??? I can't believe it. So exciting. Your experience at Target reminded me of last year. Shopping the night before hoping to find something good. Love your story about the chicken. I can't wait for pictures next week!! I might have to do that too. My blog explains! Have so much fun with Anna.
Easter snuck up on me this year.... it happens. I'm pretty positive that your kids have great memories and one year when you didn't go all out isn't going to ruin them or Easter. :) But I totally understand the Mommy guilt. haha
GRATS on the win!!! I like the 2nd one best.
Have fun with all the noise and fun!
So behind on blogging! Glad you're better. Have fun with anna!
Emily, I'm so sad that you were so sick for so long! Wish I had been there to feed you chicken soup, or at least a great Easter dinner. I love you, and I'm jealous that you are Anna are going to get a great visit. Wish I was there. Have a wonderful time and kiss the kids for me!
I like the second one better too. I like it with the blue bottoms.
I don't really like Easter. Not my thing.
I threw my Easter together at the last minute. I'm calling it the "laid back" approach. Congrats on winning! (And for tying me at Quordy.) I'm gonna order a swimsuit from that place, but I can't decide on one either. Might go for the clearance rack...
Missed you Sunday. Poor little Tait and Rachel. Sorry to hear they are sick. Since becoming a mom I have started to dislike the winter season because it inevitably means dealing with sick kids for months until the weather warms up. I went jogging today (for the first time in years) and have an entirely new respect for you and Jenn. You runners are amazing people!
Bummer that you were still getting over being sick! We will be in Tucson all week, we will be in Phoenix Friday visiting my cousin and then heading home on Saturday. Sorry we won't be able to visit. BTW, Arizona is beautiful!
My mom never did Easter baskets. She said we got enough "crap" (her words) on Halloween and Christmas, and besides Easter isn't about the candy anyway. We colored easter eggs and got new dresses, but that was about it. When I first got married, Easter morning came and I was in hot water with Ryan because I hadn't done an Easter basket (he was 14, for pete's sake!). So, we do the same thing....we color a boatload of eggs and host a hunt with a dessert buffet in the evening. This year I didn't even buy Meg an Easter dress because I couldn't find one I liked.
I say go for the laid-back Easter. They're still memorable and you can focus on the important part of Easter...the Resurrection.
I saw that you won the contest! That's awesome!! Whichever one you pick will be adorable, cuz they were all so cute!
I'm sorry you've all been sick. Just have an Easter do-over this weekend!
You poor thing. What a long week of sickness. No fun. I hope you are feeling better now. Don't be so hard on yourself! You are a great Mom! I am not sure we would have even had a dinner after that week. We didn't do too much this Easter either it was just super busy. Hope you get back to your runs soon and have an awesome time with your sis ( I can relate to loving time with mine). So I love the swim suit. I have one from them. Modest and cute! Well that's something to look forward to after this week!!:)
I feel bad you got so sick! And Tait too. I sure hope you are feeling better now. I wish I could have been there this week. I miss you tons and love you a bunch too. Can't wait until Womens Conf!!!!!
I miss my Emily Running time... Come back! :)
I love your Easter dinner! You did a good job at salvaging it. I probably would have ended up with mac and cheese.
