New Year, New Start:
Apparently, it is now 2009--don't know how it happened. With a new year comes new starts, or what I like to call re-starts. I feel like I am always 're-starting' certain goals and making new ones and trying really, really hard not to get discouraged.
I am a Monday, or 1st of the month re-starter. I always say, "Oh, on Monday I will start eating healthier." Or, "On the 1st of the month I will really start keeping my budget." Really, it's a cop-out and I need to do better.
When I made my list for the new year, it got very lengthy. I guess I have a lot of work to do. But, it seemed like there was an underlying theme with almost all of my goals and that is organization. I think if my life were more organized in all aspects, everything else would fall into place.
I can think of some people I know who are really organized and it always seems like they have it together. That they are happier and more effective in every way. My Aunt Mary, my sister Amanda, my friend Jenn , the list goes on... I am organized in some respects, but totally a wreck in other ways. I can pretty much tell you where anything is in my house, but it's still probably not in the correct place. I'm afraid that keeping a completely organized life is almost impossible for me. I am lucky if the dishes are done, the floors are clean and the laundry is done at the end of the day. Do any of you have any organizing tips? Do you have a favorite blog or website that has helped you organize your life? I would really love any advice.
Another one of my major goals for this year is to be healthy. I have spent my entire life eating crap and as a result, feeling like just that--crap. I have also always been an unhealthy dieter too.
My total mindset has changed since I started this "Fitness Challenge" with my sisters and friends. I have to say that I feel better. I have successfully ran my first 3 miles without stopping which is HUGE for me. Huge. My goal with my running is to make it to 5 miles by the end of the month. I'm hoping that is a realistic goal (Jen L.?). Caleb has been my running partner each night and boy can he run! My friends are trying to get me to run a half marathon in March, but I'm afraid that would be a little too ambitious. Baby steps and one day at a time.
I have about 5 more pounds to lose to make it to my pre-pregnancy weight and I'm proud that I have done it completely medication and fad diet-free. Healthy eating and exercise is the only thing that works. Period.
The rest of my goals are probably similar to yours, so I won't bore you. I'm really looking forward to the coming year and what it has in store. We have been so blessed.

Well lookie who has lovered her some of Shed's music suggestions, eh? Sweetness. I am so glad you are loving that fitness challenge! Watch out cuz it can become addictive. Can't wait til we can all run in a 5k together.
First, thank you for putting your blog music back up. I always liked opening your blog and hearing new music. Second, I'm with you on the running thing. I totally slacked off in Dec, but Tony and I ran the other night and it was a happy feeling. I love being out at night, listening to music while I run. And I still can't run more than 3 miles. Is that normal?
Anyway, good luck with your new start.
4 miles is TOTALLY realistic by the end of the month...Go For It!
I just read about a website called www.cozi.com check it out.
love ya
Em, good for you with your healthy eating and exercising. I can't wait to start doing that in March once this baby comes. I'm always impressed with how you can get everything done. You are amazing. Good Luck with your goals for 2009. I need to do my own too!
Good luck with both those goals. I don't have advice for organization, but I agree with the idea that being organized helps keep a lot of other things in life under control. I need to work on organizing so badly! One thing that has helped me with my attempt to eat healthier (I am in no way an expert at it!) is to try to drink 8 glasses of water a day.
I have the same goals, but I have just been keeping them in my head. Dwight says I need to write them down, but then I'd really have to do them. We'll see.
Wow, you think I'm organized. Let me tell you a little secret. It's not being organized, it's called O.C.D. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Yep, I diagnosed myself about two years ago. So no worries. You are just fine!
Love your tunes by the way.
If you get some good advice on organization, pass it on to me. I am more hopeless than you. I am just waiting for all my kids to be gone so I can put something away, and it will be there when i need it.
Katie has it figured out. It's so hard to be organized when you have a house full of unorganized people using things and not putting them away. It's much easier now just putting away the things that Gus leaves out. Great goals, though. Good luck on them. Wish I could run, but I'm happy to manage any kind of exercise these days.
You and I have the same goals. I totally agree with everything you day. I think you are doing awesome. This fitness challenge has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. Way to go on the 3 miles.

3 miles! Great job Emily!! I really need to get going again. I didn't exercise at all the last 3 weeks in December and I. am. feeling. it. I think you could totally do a half marathon by March. Go for it!!
As for organization...let me know when you find something good!!
Great Goals. I struggle with weight loss I wish I could shed 20 pounds pill free and fab diet free.
Your inspiring!
Great goal, Emily. I always tell my students that organization is everything. The key for me has been establishing a place for everything and purging. Since Evan is our last, it has been so nice to pass on all the "baby" clothes/stuff. Minimize and weed out - sounds easy, but it takes time.
Good luck with the no soda (I have one a day - it's my treat for the day) and healthy eating (the key is to NOT have it in the house). You will feel so much better. It's so wonderful that you have a supportive group to help you with your challenge!
You are doing great, Emily!
