For FHE on Monday we talked about service and the true meaning of Christmas. We reminded the kids that the greatest joy comes from serving others. It's a true Christ-like attribute that we are trying hard to instill in our children. It needs to start at home, and to be honest we aren't doing so great. I presented the kids with a tiny, wrapped (pretend) gift (I got from Enrichment a few weeks ago) that would rotate around our house. When someone does a service for the other person, they would leave the gift and that person would then do a service for someone else.
The kids were really excited about this idea! Sarah was the first and she went and cleaned Caleb's room for him. He was very appreciative, he wrote Sarah a thank-you note and drew her a picture. It's been really fun to see the kids serving each other. There has been a little more peace around here and that makes me very happy.
Last night, I walked in my room and found this poem that Kennedy had written me along with the little present on top.

Muffins are a good thing! At least she didn't say you smelled like muttin in order to find a word that ryhmes with button ;)
I just watched the juice box video, and it was so funny! My favorite part was her perfect impression of Bella's ridiculous stuttering in the Twilight. Thanks for the laugh!
Kennedy is so cute! You're one lucky mom.
I love muffins. They always smell so good. :)
That is so adorable! Sometimes I can't wait for my kids to grow up so they can tell me I smell like a muffin... or just tell me something other than, "No, Mommy." We do need to get together. We're going up to Prescott this weekend. Maybe after the holidays...
That is so sweet!!... And I've never smelled a muffin that didn't smell great!
That's got to be a compliment. Muffins are yummy, so you must be yummy too. ;)
You are doing such a great job!! I am so glad things are going better.
It's been fun for my family to do so many acts of service for each other too. It's funny how cleaning up someone else's room is so much more fun than doing your own! That's what I've found this week. I like your idea of having a gift. That's cute. That poem is adorable.
I spent an afternoon with Kennedy during Molly's wedding preparations and knew right off she was special. Love that great niece. And muffins do smell great.
I smelled a muffin scented candle at Kohl's the other day....delicious!
Muffin is HIGH of my list of "things I wanna smell like". Congrats! That's awesome of Kennedy.
We adore Kennedy over here. Meg was seriously bummed she didn't come with you to Liz's.
We need to AZ sometime...
What kind of muffin?
I LOVE getting poems and pictures like that! You must be pretty special because that was an adorable! :)
Kennedy's note is the best! We need to follow your example and do the service idea as well! Thanks for being such a great example!
I love your family home eve idea!! That is awesome that the kids spent so much time serving one another. Hmmmm I think I would be happy as a muffin they are yummy!! She must love her muffin mama!! What a sweetie!!
What flavor of muffin?
Mmmmm, muffins. In my book, that comes before "Mmmmm, doughnuts!"
And I cracked up at your not so matching flip flops. My first thought was "At least you had shoes on." Seriously- there are days like that. Glad to know you got some time "off".
I love the note from Kennedy. so sweet! Muffins are the best! I wore mis matched shoes too one day. It was memorial day and we met relativews and had a picnic in the park before I discovered that one was blue and one black! At least they were a left and a right. I guess that is all that really matters *U*.
You Matsons have such an awesome family. I love when you share things like this. How sweet. Love you!
That was so stinkn' cute. What a good idea. We should have tried that, maybe it would have helped...or NOT!
