Life After Tait

People keep asking me, "How are you handling life with six kids?" My answer is usually, "We are managing." That might be a little bit of an over statement. We have our good days and our bad ones, but life in the Matson house really hasn't changed that much. There are still kids to be fed, messes to clean up and fights to break up. My hands are just full now. Yes, life is pretty dang hectic, but I wouldn't change a thing.

I tried to catch this little beauty in the midst of a full blown temper tantrum, but in usual Rachel style, she completely transformed into cuteness as soon as I turned the camera on. She really hasn't seemed too phased with the new baby around. She's actually pretty oblivious to him most of the time. I'm glad there isn't jealousy issues, but she does get a little neglected from time to time.

There's still a whole lot of this ^ going on. Note the chocolate pudding face. Is there such thing as The Terrible Fives?

I'll tell you what my saving grace has been. This kid. He jumps up and is willing to help me anytime. He is my designated dishes doer. He rarely complains and is also a pretty good babysitter.

This little girl is a pretty good helper too. She is our garbage girl. She is also super helpful with the baby. She has probably been the most excited of the kids with having a new brother. She always wants to hold him and she is constantly running to get me things when my hands are full.

What are the child labor laws?

I wasn't able to catch Sarah in the act of anything probably because I can never catch her.

Now, if we can just get this guy to do this at night. He really is the sweetest baby and is pretty easy--as long as he is being held. I'm really enjoying this stage because I know it won't be long and it will be over.

**Thanks Memzy for the blog post idea.

See? Good advice, right? That post was awesome. Flanktastic even. What good helpers you have! There is such a thing as the terrible fives. I know, cuz there IS such a thing as the terrible sevens.

Love it Emily. Kind of funny how you've got the boy doing the dishes and the girl doing the trash. We grew up with the boys always taking out the trash. Everyone looks so cute. Can't wait to see you. I know I keep saying it. But I am so excited!

I have been working hard trying to train kids to do the dishes. It usually takes them a good hour to do a 10 min. job. Maybe you could post on how you trained yours.

That is a great picture of Tait!! I am glad to hear that everyone is adjusting. I can't quite grasp the concept of 6. I am scared to death to bring home 1. :O) Thank you for Caleb and Kennedy. I know they will have a lot to teach me.

Older kids are the best at being turned into slaves! They are going to grow up to be the BEST employees. There has to be some kind of study out there to back me up here.

Tait is SO cute! He totally looks like Rob in that picture. I'm sure six will take some getting used to. You are super lucky to have that older brother/sister help. I have some, but mine isn’t coordinated enough to do dishes.

I don't think we would have lived without all the chores done. What a blessing it is to have a family where kids haae to learn to do thier part, work and be helpful. It will bless them their whole lives.

Tait is adorable and changing isn't he?

I am glad you are feeling OK.

If you ever catch up to Sarah show us a picture of her too.

Love ya,

I think you are pretty amazing. I feel like I've got my hands full with my two kids and then I look at moms like you with more kids and think "there goes an amazing woman!" I wish all I had to do to get Miles to stop throwing a tantrum and break into a smile was pull out the camera...

Thanks for the update. I have been wondering. I watch a little boy half days during the week and can barely handle three children. You are amazing, keep up the awesome work. Your kids are beautiful!
